28th March-Competition Report SDA Youth 2026 Grand Prix 04 Future Stars – Winner – Gene Adams
31/03/2026This was another wonderful day of darts and before we get into the fantastic win by Gene there are a few special mentions to Academy members. A shout out goes to Adam Fraser, James Ross, Ringo Cussick and Jack Honeyman who made it into the last 16 of the Grand Prix event and considering there were over 100 players, that’s a very impressive feat! In the Future Stars event there were top 32 finishes for James Ross, Robert Murray, Kayden Hutchison, and Jack Honeyman and that was equally impressive with 78 players competing in this event. Cameron Gordon, Lucas Downie, Louie McIntosh, Connor McIntosh and our wee Theo ‘Thunder Throw’ Mollison all came incredibly close to qualifying from their groups for the Future Stars knockout, so well done lads! We had quite a few players new to the competition or who are quite young and as ever we are proud of each and every one of you. Once again you compete and conduct yourselves in a brilliant manner.
The huge success story goes to recent birthday boy Gene Adams. After topping his group, winning 4 out of 4, Gene powered through the last 32 and last 16 matches without losing a set. The quarter final proved a sterner test with the match going the full distance before Gene dug in and took victory with a 3-2 win. The semi-final match against Chris Brown was dispatched 3-1to set up the final against Kayden Sommerville who had also come through his group undefeated. Indeed, on paper Gene looked to be up against it with Kayden only dropping 1 leg in the knockout stages and averaging over 67 in the semi final win. However, darts isn’t played on paper! and Gene began the final well, taking the first leg. Kayden responded taking the second before Gene fired a 17-dart leg to go 2-1 up. Kayden once again bounced back to tie the final at 2-2 going into the decider and it was here that Gene was able to wrap up victory to take the match and the trophy 3-2. Absolutely fantastic Gene and a well-deserved victory. What a fantastic performance from all the academy members! Well done to the parents too for the support, they may have returned home without fingernails and hair a little more grey!
All the best
